PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN

Técnico en Atención al Paciente

PCT's play an essential function as members of the healthcare team. The patient care technician program is designed to educate and train individuals to function as nursing support personnel. By virtue of their training, they are placed above the level of certified nursing assistants but below vocational nurses' level. While nursing assistants work primarily in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, patient care technicians also work in hospital settings. They are trained to support the nursing team by performing duties that may be safely and legally delegated to them by the nursing staff.

The patient care technician (PCT) is a three-month program and consists of the Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy Technician, and EKG courses. After completing all of the courses, the student will be able to sit for the PCT examination for certification. In addition to the PCT exam, students can also sit for their CNA and Phlebotomy exam; however, these are optional.
